Default River Smallmouth Fishing

Just a quick report to let everyone know that the smallies are hitting top water here in western NC! I've been on two different smallie rivers over the past week and they both produced well.

For the most part the fish have been hammering white poppers in size #4 fished slowly behind rocks and in the eddies. I would bet that they would also hit crankbaits and plastics but I've only been throwing the flyrod. We had a great spawn from what I've seen, lots and lots of baitfish and of course the smallies are starting to cahse them into the shallows.

The water is getting warmer by the day.... oh yea it's also very low for this time of the year. The rivers might go dry this summer if we don't get some rain.
