Default power loss

While cruising around this weekend, all of a sudden my engine would lose power and start smoking (5 hp Briggs and Stratton). Noticed some fuel leaking from some narrow plastic tubing, so I fixed that. Also replaced the spark plug and fuel filter, but the problem continued.

Saw Shemstreet back at the dock, and he suggested water in the gas. Sounds plausible, and after I thought about it I realized the gas I had in there wasn't the freshest. So I'll switch that out and see what happens. Any other opinions?

Thanks!
