Default Stupid Question

I know this is a stupid question, and I think I know the answer, but here goes anyway. I just bought a brand new marine battery from Wal-mart. Should I put it on the charger before it's first use, or go with the factory charge?

My common sence tells me to charge it, but I just wanted to double check. In the past we've always just used an old car battery for running the lights. I now have a trolling motor along with an electric start gas motor so having a GOOD battery is a must.
