Default beaver pond fishing

A couple of times recently I've tried fishing a beaver pond in the woods behind my house. It's covered with lily pads, and has countless submerged logs. Hang up city! Often wondered if there was anything decent in there, got the answer last Thursday with a 2-pound bass on a plastic worm.

Also tried casting a floating frog to no avail. There are only 2 clear spots to cast from, and the frog is so light I can't cast it very far. I have waded it before, but then remembered the basketball sized snapper we saw.

Today tried minnows under a float, caught a 1 pounder and a half-pounder. About jumped out of my shoes when I scared up a snake as I was nearing the bank!

Anybody have suggestions for fishing this (other than bug spray and snake chaps!)?
