Default city lakes

What kind of fish quality do you have in city lakes near you? Around here we have some high numbers but small fish, especially crappie. A couple of years ago we were visiting family down around Cary and I was amazed at the effort that was put into the small public lakes and ponds. It's fun for kids to catch millions of fish but it doesn't take long for them to notice they are carbon copies. I like these small lakes beecause I can get my kayak and be on the water in no time. The particular one I'm thinking abbout is around 25 years old restricted to paddle/ electric boats for the past 8 years. About 3 years ago it was drained down to the channel so they could refurbish the ****. I'd like to hear if others have this problem and maybe some ideas for targeting the "larger" fish in this type of water.
