Cool Fayetteville local pond report from 6-11-07

I was invited by a former next door neighbor to go fishing in a local 7 acre "extremely private" pond and fish for bass. The former neighbor is 82 years young and said I would have a good day at this pond. His little jon boat developed a constant leak so he had to bail water all day and I was fortunate to be fishing from the front. He was also pretty feeble and just couldn't move around like he needed to. My first cast I hooked a small bass but he got off and this was just the first as I lost at lease 10 to 12 fish that I feel I should have landed, my two largest feeling bass wrapped themselves under logs and I lost them, I had two I thought I was about to land jump in front of me and get off and had at least 5 for whatever reason just get off as I was reeling them in. I probably had another 6 bites or hits without hooking them. For the day I did catch four fish, a 3 to 4 pounder, a two pounder and two in the 1 1/2 pound range. Not a bad day but I sure am dissapointed that I lost so many fish. I was fishing weedless 6" worms with a Texas rig style and had 5/0 hooks. Possible the hooks were to large. This was by far the most fun I have ever had fishing but I need to improve my "getting" them in the boat ability.

Thanks...Jim
