Local Cary

I had asked Lefty this question via PM, however, I'm interested in getting an answer within a relatively good amount of time. It's a beautiful day outside, and I want to take it head on! This is our first day off from school (unless you have exams - seniors) until our graduation date. So, as expected, everyone's passed out and sleepin' in the first day of summer.

I don't have a car any more because my "hand-me-down" Dodge Grand Caravan gave out a few months ago. And before that, I ruined my Chevy Blazer (THE Muddin' Machine!) at an poorly-planned intersection Winter 2006. Since I'm going to college next year, I am pretty sure I'm not going to get a car anytime soon, as I won't really need because I'll be living on campus.

I'm trying to see if there are any lakes within Cary that I haven't really heard about that have good catfishing. I'm talking about good catfishing during the day as opposed to the logical dawn and dusk fishing times.

I would go bass fishing, however I really suck at it. I can fly fish, but I've never caught anything on the rod in any of the Lochmere lakes. I live up in Lochmere, so that's primarily where I fish when I'm looking for some good bites while staying within the local area. The thing is that there are a few bass in the walk around lake (about a 2 mile walk) and I've caught them with chatterbait and rooster-tails, but they aren't the fish that are worth calling home to mom about. At the Lochmere docks (bigger lake) I caught an 8 pound largemouth, and it was a one-time thing. I know there are a lot of crappie in there, none of which hang around the docks. You can only fish from a strip of land that surrounds the concrete dam and the docks. The other parts of land belong to people's house property so I'm not trying to intrude on their area. The crappie hang around every place except for the places that I would go to fish... In other words, I would need a boat. My friend who I go fishing with on the boat most usually is in Wilson right now... so yeah.

I may or may not go fishing with some of my friends (when they wake up) later today. If we end up going, I'd like to have in mind a few places to fish that I haven't had the opportunity to fish from.

For other Cary people, I know that there's one lake that's seldom fished out of by other people other than high school students. And it's something that I think people should give a try, if they want. There's a small man-made pond off Penny Road. In fact, it's right across the street from the entrance to Regency Parkway. There's a fountain in there, but you'll find some pretty large bass.

I'm interested in locating a great lake for day-time catfishing within the local Cary area. I'm not trying to venture out as far as Davis Drive (Preston Wood area near High House/Cary Parkway intersection). That's kind of pushing it. I hear there's good catfish in the creeks and streams that flow from outside of the neighborhood, and into the water hazards in their golf course; although I could not attest to any sizes, because I haven't been there to fish myself. Also, I'm trying to avoid Old Cary. Academy Street (Downtown Cary, the Amtrak station, etc.) is too far too.

Please provide me with any information that you can.
