Strange Fish Alright, I've been trying to identify this type of fish that we've caught numerous times at Bass Lake in Holly Springs. Most were pulled out of the cast net when we'd go for shad. I really wish I had a picture, but I don't.
I'll do the best to describe it, but can ya'll help me out with it?
It has a long, slender body style like that of a shad, but much larger than some of the largest we've seen. And it's build isn't skinny like a shad, but rather a little more round like a crappie. The scales, don't come off like shad either, but stay on. They come off more than they should if they were bass, but not nearly as bad as shad's do. They have a distinct color to them, with a gold-brown sheen on their scales. They have yellow fins with orange tips on them.
Someone told me they were large shad, but I don't believe his hypothesis. Can someone help me identify this fish?
Thanks!
