| From reading a lot of the posts about people catching stripers on Jordan it appears many people are trolling bucktails off of downriggers. I've never done this before and I plan on trying it for the first time this weekend. I don't expect to catch much of anything yet, I still need to learn the ropes of course However, my question is how much line do I let out behind the downrigger weight? Are people letting out as little as 10 - 20 feet? 50? 100? What is the best practice. I have down a lot of fishing off of downriggers for salmon on Lake Ontario and we only let out 10-20 feet, but the downrigger weight was 50-100 feet or more down. Since Jordan is no more than 30 feet deep at the most places I would think you would want to let out more line to get it away from the noise of the motor. Of course then you lose some control. What are peoples thoughts? Thanks Charles |
