Atlantic beach bait holes-- from fiddlers to mullet Howdy all,
I have a church group heading out on the Captain Stacey at the end of May and I will be coming in early the day before to muster up some extra bait.
I know literally nothing about Atlantic Beach and have never been there.
If you know of places easily found that I can catch some of these, I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to pm me if you'd rather. I have a good handful of questions, so anything you can answer is a great plus.
I'll either be bringing my two nephews (teens) or a retired gentleman with me to help in the bait collection, which will be as much fun as anything.
1) finger mullet- I do have an 8ft mullet net and I know how to use it (living in Charleston SC for 5 years taught me quite well).
2) Fiddlers-- any places to find live ones scurrying around at low tide?
3) pinfish and other good cut fish-- I'll be bringing a standard 12# setup for catching bait the day before, so any bridges or free piers that might yield some cut bait.
4) Are shrimp in season by the end of May? I can't remember. I do not know the laws in NC about keeping shrimp for bait. In SC you can use shrimp caught in your cast net any time you catch them-- is NC the same? Likewise, is there a place you'd recommend buying whole, local shrimp if I wanna bring back a cooler of them? |
