Default Fishing for shad

I would like to try fishing for some shad and have never really fished for them and was wondering if someone could give me some pointers about what to look for as far as locations to fish, how deep to fish. generall sizes of the shad dart or spoon to use, whether it is better to anchor up and fish with the current, across the current or a against. Any tips yall can throw my way would be appreciated.
Also is anybody familar with the core creek area down around Fortbarnwell, Dover? I have bream fished there several times and has great bream fishing. I was wondering if putting in at the landing there and running up to the mouth of the creek where it meets the Neuse river would be a good spot to try for some shad?
Thanks for any info yall feel like sharing.
Tight lines
James
