too thick to drink, too thin to plow it would be easy to report on most of the rivers and streams around the western part of the state now, HIGH! started in the gsmnp around the smokemont area ( right outside of cherokee) fish a little higher up due to the crowds and although small caddis' were hatching there was no interest shown . tried some small caddis pupae and midges, nothing. so i fell back on the old favorites, gold ribbed hares ears and stoneflies. i even tried a bead head wooly booger. i think i heard a fish laugh and tell me to give up. so i packed up and stopped off on the tuckasseege, which right now is a cherokee word meaning "wade here and die" runs that are normally waist deep were up to my armpits.and only having my 4-weight with a floating line i was kind of undergunned. what is weird though , the french broad around madison county is at flood stage , and not one ridge over on the laurel river, it's just a little high and not too discolored. |
