Baitcast Rod

I'm interested in getting a new baitcast rod. I've got an abu garcia rod-reel combo now, but the rod is a medium-heavy action and I feel like its too stiff for the light rigs I use it for. So, I'm thinking about getting a new rod and just switching the reel over to it. I'm wondering if I ought to go with a light action rod or a medium. Nothing I throw is larger than say, 1 ounce. Any suggestions? Also, I'm a fan of cheap rods, e.g. cabelas, gander mountain guide series, etc., anybody have a preference in the cheapo category?
