| If you are finished fishing for the season, here are a couple of tips for storing your reels and extending the life of the reel: Store your reels inside in a dry environment. Wipe your reel down to remove any excess dirt and grease. Release the pressure on your drag to prevent the drag washers from sticking and compressing the drag springs. Apply one drop of oil to the handle ends. Apply a drop of oil to the worm gear (level wind) and turn to spread the oil. Store your reel in cloth or protective bag to keep dust from accumulating. The best advice I can give is to have your reel taken apart and inspected, cleaned and lubed before you store them. This needs to be done a least once a year to keep them performing properly. Then they are ready at the start of the season. With the cost of reels nowdays, a little extra care will go a long way in extending the life of your reels. I have reels that are over 15 years old that still work like new. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask me. Bassman13 |
