Default Smoke Pole Turkey 5/3

I know this is a fishing forum, but maybe at times we need to talk a little turkey.

Well finally with all the time I have in the woods this turkey season I have finally downed me one. Nothing like the smell of fresh burnt gun powder in the morning air. I will take this one easy for my first bird. I've been trying now for about 5 years and this is only the second that I have shot at and the first to kill. Am I a happy hunter?? You bet your arse....

Went back to the area I have been going, trying not to pressure it. Sit up in the small field, put decoys out and back in the woods. Sit there waiting for something to happen. Hit the calls a little and then heard the gobbler in the field that I usually hunt. Eased thru the small strip of woods and got to the edge of the field and hit the call a few times.

There were the turkeys a couple hundred yards away. Finally a hen breaks and came to me and putt...putt around. She stayed by me about 20 minutes putt...putt. The she flew over the small streak of woods and landed in the decoys. She went around and putt....putt.

I looked back at the back field and here comes a tom. I stood there in the bushes about 5 yards in the woods and waited. He came up to about 50 yards and stopped and kept looking for that hen. For about 5 minutes he stood in one spot looking, scanning the woods.

The the hen by the decoys putt....putt and he started to move to the edge of the woods. I eased the gun in place and there was one hole to shoot thru easy. When he popped in that hole............BAM. He fell over graveyard dead.

I walked about 20 yards to where he fell. Grabbed the bird and back at the truck by 0750am. Man you gotta love it when a plan comes together..

Turkey.......15.6 pounds
Spurs........1 1/16th
Breard.......9 1/4 inch
Tail Spread..29 inches

Tight lines <*)))))>{
