Default Uwharrie river fishing trip 6/13/17

    Hey guys,

I have been trolling around on here for several years but have never posted anything. Anyways I figured I'd start my posting on here with my uwharrie river trip. June 13 is my dad and My birthday and we wanted to get out and do something fun fishing that we had not done before. We loaded up the native slayer(mine) and the old town caneo(dads) and met at 109 bridge. We left his truck there and took mine to low water bridge. We have fished by wading several times down river of 109 but never by boat. We put on around 7am and took out around 2:30. We did not have to drag the boats any but there were a few places we almost had to. The fishing was great. We caught probably 25 small mouth and several bream. Most fish were caught on a variety of crank baits from a spro little John to a rapala floating minnow. It was a great trip that I definitely want to do again. If anyone is wanting to go I'd be glad to meet up and do the float again.

Overall it was a great birthday on the water.

I'd be interested in a float. I'm available most weekends, like this weekend!

Ah unfortunately weekends are no good for me. I mainly do week days. The take outs are awesome. The NC wildlife has built canoe kayak take outs at both locations. The lower water bridge has like a wheel chair ramp all the way down to the water and the 109 bridge has two flights of concrete stairs with a slide looking thing for your boat.

Hmmm. I don't think there are any fish in that trickle of a stream. I mean, small mouth?

The Uwharrie is a fragile ecosystem. Please practice catch and release there.

All the small mouth we caught were around 10-12 inches. No big ones how ever I have seen and heard of some 3 plus pound smallmouth being caught out of there. All fish were released.

The little smallies are a good sign. It hasn't been stocked since the 70's. It can't take much fishing pressure. Small stream.

Anyone know how do-able it would be to put in at 109, paddle up and fish back? It's been about 20 years since I was there and about all I remember is the wicked ledges running across the river that made wading difficult.
