    Default Navy Destroyer Collision

How can you not see a giant cargo vessel? That Navy Captain is in giant trouble.

On a side note - anyone watch "The Last Ship" series?

All the high tec stuff we have on our ships these days you would think a sophisticated radar would have prevented this.

Hmm, would love to know how so many fail safes failed... Obviously military ships are run to ensure enemies don't sneek up, so for a cargo ship to sneek up, geesh.. Just glad that taking a fully loaded cargo ship broadside didn't sink it.

It seems inconceivable that two ships of that size could collide in open water....even it was dark at the time. Some folks are going to be in a world of trouble over this. Just pray the missing people are found.

Naval war ships can detect another surface ship by screw noise. Assuming the cargo ship was moving, the navy ship would know speed, location and direction. And this was a destroyer, capable of detecting a moving submarine. They would not be able to detect a stationary sub resting on the bottom. Navy ships routinely warn off other vessels to include shots across the bow.

On the sad side of things it looks like they found the missing crew in there bunk area and they did not survive. My prayers go out to the the families for the loss of their love ones.

That should have been the first sentence in what I wrote.
