\r\n The past couple years that I fished Stagecoach, I would see people catch their limits and return the following days and do it over again. I would like to know who eats 25 white bass in a day and needs to replenish themselves that quickly. 10 was always my cut off limit, and even that would last me a month or more. I always caught what i would eat, then catch n release for the rest of the spring run. I love to eat fish as much as anyone, but 25 is way too much when you see the same people fishing the same hole day after day.\r\n

\r\n I think that a lot of people can\'t tell the difference between a white perch, which they would love to eradicate in the areas it overlaps with the white bass, and a white bass, especially when they are under a pound. I think they are throwing the baby out with the bath water because it\'s the only way they can drain the tub. I may be wrong and even if I am am not it probably won\'t work. I know in a lot of places they prefer to stock hybrids because they are easier to manage.\r\n

\r\n Interesting: In some places (not in U.S.) creel limits are not \'daily\'. The creel limits are the number you\'re allowed to have in your possession at any one time. The ones in your freezer count as part of what\'s in your possession. Therefore, you can\'t possess any more until you reduce the number in your freezer, and then you can only keep the balance. You can only keep the full limit if your freezer, along with any other resource you have for storage, is empty.
    \n
\nI think this is a pretty good idea. I have no idea how it\'s enforced. I don\'t think they have a Freezer Police. I \'spect it\'s mostly up to individual integrity levels - at which NCAngler.com forum members excel by the way.
    \n
\nIt wouldn\'t bother me to see this, or anything similar that limits hoarding, enacted on the Eno during white bass season - just as seasonal limits are imposed on the Roanoke River Striper run. Too many seasonal limits in the Spring around the state might overtax the wildlife officers though.
    \n
\nI would be in favor of stricter limits if the fishery needs it in order to be sustained. I don\'t think anybody would want to go through a restoration process like was needed on the Roanoke a decade or two back.
    \n
\nA limit of 25 is ok as long as the fishery can sustain. But conversations on the forum lead us to consider that it might not be able to. It seems time for a NCWRC check - just like they keep a check on the Black Bass and Crappie fisheries in Falls and Jordan. The check could/should include analysis for changes in the limits, changes in stocking, or both.

\r\n \r\n It is unlawful to possess more than the daily creel limit while fishing, boating or afield; or to possess at any place more than

\r\n Nice find! With creel limits on various bodies being different around the state, it\'s even less enforceable. If I fish Mayo, but go to the vicinity of Jordan, you can\'t enforce Jordan\'s limit on me.

I guess this would be enforcable if vacationing on a body for three days+, but even then searches of coolers, refrigerators, etc. would have to take place - warrants required I \'spect. I think no magistrate would issue such a warrant. Back to integrity - doing right because the law says to, not because you\'re being watched.

Taking fish, alive or dead, with you from lake to lake is a really bad idea. Harris and Jordan are extremely close to each other and due to slot/size limits you could take black bass at Jordan that would be illegal to possess at Harris or visa versa with Crappie.\r\n

\r\n I wouldn\'t mind seeing it go down a little, but I actually don\'t think it is horrible. The white bass population (at Falls and Jordan) is healthy according to the state. These aren\'t stripers or other fish that have difficulty reproducing and maintaining population. The issue this year is that people aren\'t catching as many, but I believe that is due more to the bizzare weather and water levels that have screwed up the internal spawning clock for these fish.
    \n
\nI practice catch and release for the overwhelming majority of my fishing trips. But, I will keep catfish, crappie, white bass, and other panfish sometimes. A lot of people around here, including me, freeze fish and eat it year round. So, I have zero problem with people going out and catching fish a few days during the run. The run doesn\'t last that long and rarely do you see guys with a true "bucket full". And you know that a lot of those guys who do that are doing it out of need (feeding large families on very little income).
    \n
\nI have seen a lot of fishing behaviors in this state that I do not approve of - netting, keeping undersized fish, introducing invasive species, etc.....but I am OK with the current guidelines until the state decides a change is (or is not) needed.\r\n

\r\n Our 25 creel limit seems a bit excessive to me. If 10 people catch and keep their limit for a day that\'s 250 fish gone instantly plus what said fish may have spawned, which could add up quickly, and we all know that when they are biting more than 10 people are catchin\' and keepin\'. 15 sounds like a much more reasonable number to me but I have no data to base any number off of, just my thoughts of what seems excessive.\r\n

\r\n I\'ve never been to either of those lakes stated above to target white bass. According to everything I read on the forum, I see that the Eno is heavily fished.
    \n
\nI will be going to the Eno Meet and it\'s a two hour haul for me. Am I going to catch my limit? Probably not but I\'m goin to make my trip worth it even if I don\'t. I can understand if you live an hour or so away and want to keep a limit of your catch. But living within an hour is a different story.
    \n
\nI don\'t think the 25 fish limit is an issue. The problem is the ones who go back daily and bring home their limits each day. This problem also exist with other species and not just white bass.\r\n

\r\n I would be more in favor of a catch and release only time frame. Like maybe the first 3 weeks in March or even all of March. I think this would be easier than a creel limit. You see a person with a fish during C&R time they\'re busted.
    \n
\nThe amount of fish in the current creel limit I feel is too large. Although I don\'t fault people for taking their limit different days. That is the current law and I think most give them to friends and other family members. I\'m sure some do freeze the fish and eat it other times of the year. This year I haven\'t seen many people with a ton of fish but this has also been an offer year. Last year there were a couple times I saw people struggling to carry two 10gallon buckets full of fish.\r\n

To offset those who are returning daily, decreasing the daily limit would work as well as greatly help the enforceability of the laws. I would say lowering the limit to 10-15 would be a good idea.\r\n

\r\n White bass have already disappeared from several lakes (Norman, Hiwassee, Kings Mountain/Moss)
    \n
\nI don\'t think the state is too terribly concerned about white bass. In most of the state they are a non native species anyway\r\n

\r\n I have been going down and fishing the white bass run at Penny\'s Bend for at least 9 years now, and there has definitely been a drop off in numbers of fish the past 5 years. I don\'t totally blame it on overfishing from people catching their limits. What I do know is after people fishing and wildlife officers discovered illegal nets strung across the river a couple years ago the fishing went down and has yet to recover. That along with the general size increase tells me there are less white bass out there to compete for food and growing bigger. I would be all for a couple weeks of March and or April as catch and release only. I also know there are a lot of variables that affect the run with the rain or lack of, wacky temps, and just the sheer volume of water they have to choose from in where to spawn. There are 3 tributaries of the neuse river that all come together to form the neuse before it flows into Falls. It could be just the fish that come up to spawn in the eno have gone up the flat or little rivers instead due to low water levels, but I don\'t know, just another variable that could be affecting the run.\r\n

\r\n What we have to remember is that VERY few people hit the 25 fish limit at any time other than the spawn and even then it is confined to just a few easily accessible areas. Other than spawning time at those few places white bass are mostly ignored in NC.
\nLike Jbare said there are other areas that aren\'t as easy to access or to corner the fish. As long as they have those places to spawn the population should be pretty safe from overfishing.
    \n
\nMight be a better approach to make it illegal to release any white perch caught. How about a series of white perch tournys ...... base it on number of fish caught and NOT released!\r\n

I like this! especially if it ends with filleting, breading, a frying and eating. I think it needs its own thread for some planning.

They are non game fish, so taking with intent to destroy without eating is legal. I have mixed feelings about the WP in Harris. They seem to get decent sized and they are quite tasty.\r\n

\r\n White perch are game fish.
    \n
\nI asked about classifying them as non game fish so they could be netted but the wildlife folks fear if the fish could be netted it would encourage their spread. This was after they were discovered in Lake James in Burke County.\r\n

\r\n I stand corrected; they are listed but have no size or creel limit, so that means you have to take them by hook and line and you are not supposed to keep them just to purposefully destroy them. Actually the wording is:
    \n
    \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
\r\n \r\n It is unlawful to destroy unnecessarily any inland game fish taken from public fishing waters\r\n \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
I wonder if attempting to improve the fishery constitutes necessity?
    \n
\nAnyway, sorry about the bad info in the previous post...\r\n

\r\n "unnecessarily" - I\'ll bet a slick attorney could have a field day with that one! For my part I\'ve never destroyed a white perch unnecessarily.\r\n

\r\n Catch and Release for white bass?! Seriously? I\'m not in favor of making ANY more regs that the officers can\'t enforce, but certainly C&R for white bass is ridiculous. I agree with "Mack" that plenty of fish make it past Penny\'s Bend to spawn. Look at the water levels for the past couple years, most flows are below average. This condition probably has way more to do with fish populations than harvesting does. I personally think that in low-water times, the fish just spawn in lower parts of the river. Heaven forbid a fisherman actually has to hike somewhere to find good fishing. I fished the Eno one day last year and hardly caught anything, but came back 3 days later and could have limited out before lunch. The greedy and unethical don\'t pay any mind to the current regulations and making more restrictive rules isn\'t going to stop them. Do your part to report violations and encourage catch-and-release. Otherwise, just enjoy being outside on public property.\r\n

\r\n If you get into the ones over a foot long, then I\'d say this limit is about double what it should be. Who can eat that many before they go bad? Granted, if you only get to fish once a month, maybe you think you want to clean 25 fish, but it gets old if you fish weekly or more often.\r\n
