    Default Swivel sizes and pound ratings

    Out of curiosity, I have looked on the net and I can't find an explanation of what the ratings for barrel and 3-way swivels translate into for pound rating.

    Normally I buy barrel swivels based on "yea that looks big enough" but I am going to order some stuff online and I can't use that time-tested method.

    I am going to be using these bottom bouncing offshore for grouper and similar bottom dwellers using 65# line on the reel. Do I just order the big 5/0 boys or are those oversized for my purposes?

    I'm not sure all manf. follow the same standard but here's what's on the Bill Fisher swivel pack (From Sea Striker):

    4/0 = 350 lb test
    2/0 =225
    1 = 150
    3 = 100
    5 = 90
    7 = 75
    10 = 30

    Thanks Topsail, as always!

    Those do seem to be different than what I recall seeing on a pack one time-- I remember one of the 2/0 was 150lb. so apparently the sizes are subjective.

    It does differ by manufacturer and style, When I use one it's a Sampo.

    Sampo Swivels

    Hope that helps.
