Where are the stripers at right now. Up river or down or in coves or what. Haven't been on Hickory fishing in a while. Figure I can catch shad. Just looking for a starting point. Hope someone can help.
Can someone enlighten me about where the castle area is and what it is? I am hitting either Hickory or Lookout for the first time tomorrow. I've been fishing Norman and Mountain Island mainly for stripers/cats/spots for awhile but the boat traffic is getting really bad where I like to fish. Plus Hickory and Lookout are both closer to home than lower Norman. Time to get out of my comfort zone and learn some new lakes. Any reliable areas for netting bait on either?
The Castle is pretty cool, I remember watching the progress the summer that they built it. We kept joking for a couple of weekends that it looked like it was going to end up being a Castle. There is a Knight in Armor at one of the houses in the cove across the lake.
Looking for a guide on lake hickory in OCT 2016...
I couldn't find a way to start a new thread, so sorry I am hijacking your thread. If anyone just wants some cash to do a little lake ride and check out the property I could throw some cash for gas your way. The property is located by Rink Dam.
Thanks for the reply on the castle location. Been watching some vids on youtube about Hickory, looks like A rig$ are pretty popular so I guess that's what I will try first until I figure out where to catch bait. Also found some good vids on youtube about how to make your own A rigs and save some bucks.
Looking to fish lake hickory Saturday for striper, not familiar with the lake, is gunpowder creek where to catch bait? Where are the striper holding at now?any input will be great. ..
Not sure right yet. Will be a few weeks before I get caught up and hit the water. Gunpowder usually holds bait. The back near the boat ramp is a good place to start. I also have found them near the bridge. I would head towards the 321 bridge and look for marks. I'm guessing the fish should be in that area. Hope someone else can help with where to fish. Good luck and be sure to report back.
I have good reports of fish being caught in the main channel near the mouth of Gunpowder. I am going in the morning, if I find anything of importance i will send you a PM.
no bait or boards, I am hoping to paddle out to get in the morning topwater bite, and try some jigs or troll some cranks after the sun gets up. I'll let you know what happened in a few hours.
Nothing of great interest to report. 1 striper 26-27 inches on a white spook. 1 spot and 1 LMB. There are shad around I saw some netted close to Rink Dam. The fish were coming up all over driving shad up on the banks and circling them in the deeper waters. I think most of the fish were schooling LMB and spots. If I were pulling bait I would start with a free-line at sunup and go to a vertical drift later in the day.
Trolled live bait this morning at gunpowder, nothing to report, marked alot of bait in the area, but didn't hook up with anything. Was free lining and fishing deep
if the asterisks in the post are the word dam, The water towards Rhodhiss will not be cooler, with the low water Duke has not been generating power much at all, so there hasn't been the infusion of cool water from the bottom of Rhodhiss lake. I am not sure about any action towards Oxford.
Fish this am for a couple hours. Took a bit to get the right throw on some bait, but when I did, we had an 8ft radius net full. 5 to 6 inch shad at that. Fished from gunpowder up to the power lines and around there. Noting to report. Lots of nice marks down 20ft +. Will try to get back soon. Sounds like I will head down towards camp ground from reports.
Headed tomorrow evening as long as all goes as planned. Going to hit water around 6pm for the evening run. Will try to put in at rink dam and hope to catch bait around there. Never tried that before. Any pointers appreciated. Always put in at love lady or gunpowder. Hope to pull some planner boards and a few down rods. Will report tomorrow night.
Went this evening. Put in at 6pm at rink dam. Lots of bait but all tiny. Seen some fish blow up towards main channel. Looked like tuna feeding for 30sec. Just needed some good bait.
You should be able to get PM's if they options show up for us to send one. I will send you a test PM now. If you don't get it let us know and the monitors will take care of it.
You can almost always find them inside or just outside on the flat at rinks dam. I always start there. Down near the marina on the point can be good and also near gunpowder, but rinks is my go to always.
