I just started catfishing again this year after a long hiatus. I've been to Bells Church on Jordan Lake and I'm planning to try Harris lake one evening next week. Are there any other good shore fishing opportunities for big cats in the surrounding area? Maybe somewhere on the Neuse? I am willing to drive up to an hour to get to good spots. I am also getting my wife into the sport, so relatively easy access is a must.

You can't keep them, but I hear Crabtree Lake is a great place for catfish off the shore. Do a youtube search for Uncle Steve and look through his videos. That's not his actual youtube channel name, but it should find him. His actual youtube name is something kind of weird and hard to remember. adamitshelanu or somthing like that I think. He caught quite a few cats out of there on a few trips.
Crabtree lake has thousands of cats. Most are very small 1-5lb. I carp fish at Crabtree and the cats are a major pest they take the bait before I can put the rod on the rest.
The neuse river has some nice cats in it. There is a very long stretch of greenway downstream of Milburnie dam. Google "Anderson Pointe Park". Should be plenty of parking, and greenway access that goes along the bank.
