Description: Senator® Series

Tried and true, the Penn Senator® has been an icon on the big game fishing scene, even before the original release of that famous shark movie, Jaws®. The Penn Senator® remains the most trusted, most powerful star drag reel on the market. In fact, most of the original Senator® reels are still fishing, even after decades of service. Little wonder that Penn Senators® have caught more IGFA big game world records than all other makes combined; and with five sizes available, there is a Senator® for everything from movie sized sharks, to grouper, cod, and rockfish.

Pros: Tough, good line capacity, good reel for lighter tackle needs yet enough capacity
Cons: nylon reel seat back, handle size/range

Always loved the black faced Senators, known for being the toughest of the tough.
I really dont like the balance type handle that comes with the 113, Accurate makes handle upgrades, so to swap it out costs a little extra, but a new handle will give this reel more leverage power and a bit more speed per crank.

I currently use my 113 as a teaser reel spooled up with 80 lb mono and a 6 ft Penn Long Beach rod, but it can double duty troll/bottom fish in a pinch and is a great back up reel. I prefer these over the Penn graphite series reels such as the 320's and etc...

Only difference other than the color of the side plates v.s. the Senator Special series is, these reels use bushings and not bearings like used on the Special Senators, so there is a need to keep things lubed up on them.

Penn does a good job of supplying a maintenance tool and reel lubricant in the box when you order/buy one of these.

And like with any Penn, the older ones are built like tanks compared to the ones produced now... they may command a premium price on the used market, but are worth it and easy to find parts for replacement/repair.
