Description: This was Quantums first venture into the world of offshore two speed trolling reels and believe me they did their homework. They took three years to develop it and what they came up with is one fine engineered and designed reel.

The Aruba 30PTs has a spec'd line capacity of 750 yards of 30 lb. line and I was able to pack 790 yds of 30lb Cajun Red on my Aruba. The reels have a selectable two-speed drive – 3.2:1 or 1.7:1 – positively engage in either setting.

The PT30 uses Quantums patented new Nitrogen-Alloy PT bearings which has been billed as the finest bearing in the saltwater market . Their marketing guide says the five special bearings last longer, crank smoother and provide greater protection from the corrosive environment than any others on the market and so far I can't refute that claim. What I really like about the reel is there is no tool required to takedown the reel to clean at the end of the day. I have experienced no corrosion problems or had any mechanical issues with the reel. You can set 60lb of drag with this reel, and how do I now this, well they advertized it as having this capability so I tried it out.

As to fishability, it is smooth as silk, especially the carbon drag system. Line retreival is easy because the reel is well balanced plus has a large speed handle. The drag is easy to set and does not wander, in other words, if I set the strike drag at 12 lbs it stays at that setting. My reel has been tested over and over again locking horns with Wahoo, Mahi, and Tuna durning the last couple of months. I fish it next to a Tiagra 30 and have found that the Quantum holds its own very nicely plus it lighter. The best price I've seen online is $389.00. See the video below for more information.
