Went through a whole pack one afternoon on the Intercoastal at Carolina Beach. Good news was that I was getting attention from the fish. Bad news was not much to show for it. Not sure what all was pecking at them but I did catch one ribbonfish and hooked what I think was a largemouth bass - lost him in a jump at the boat.
Tails on these baits have awesome action, but the action comes from having a very skinny connection between the body and the tail. Makes for a lot of bitten-off tails in my experience.
Good sharp hooks, good weights, great colors (love the cross bones white with red hook). If they smelled like gulp they'd be awesome, but you'd still lose a whole lot of tails.

I started using these trolling for striper in the Cape Fear and had huge success with them, especially the white colored ones. The flash and action seem to get the striper's attention in the murky waters of the river.
Then someone gave me a tip to try them on a a spinning rod for sight casting to Dolphin when they are near the boat or around weed lines. Wow do they ever work and what a blast! I found the blue or green colors in the 6 inch version to work best on the dolphin.
The low cost is really nice as you sometimes get cut-off my King Mackerel and other toothy fish, this way I can avoid the wire leader but not worry about losing an expensive lure.

I certainly enjoyed my first and only tryout of the Calcutta swimmer. On a long, biteless day I swithced to the white with hot pink tail and landed a 12 pound red. Great action.

Topsail Angler, when you were trolling for stripers, did you just put the bait out there or did you use planers, trolling weights, etc..?
