I hate rod leashes, but losing equipment is always a possibility when kayak fishing. I've been using these rod floaters for the last 2 months and am generally pleased with them. Some line slap with my spinning rigs, but that's not really a problem. The provided Velcro straps (2 for each float) are sufficient to keep the foam floats attached, although I couldn't resist adding a 3rd for insurance -- but it's probably not necessarily.
I have tested the product in a pool with a baitcaster and rod -- item worked as advertised. The rod did not float vertically as I'd hoped, but it did keep the rig floating horizontally on the water surface.
Issues:
*unless you're using an ultralight rig, make sure you get the 8" size (6" is probably fine for UL).
*Ten bucks for 3 foam thingies seems excessive. It looks like you could make them yourself, but I have not been able to find the right foam at Home Depot or Lowes.
*I prefer the bright colors, but you can only get 2 of those in a pack of 3--other one is black. Just think the visibility of the bright colors are preferable when it comes time to find and retrieve from rig from the drink!
