Description: This is a book written by a Conway, South Carolina native who was born and raised on the banks of the Waccamaw River. In it he describes a one week canoe trip down river from Lake Waccamaw in North Carolina to Georgetown South Carolina and the interesting people he met along the way. He gives information about the history of the river including the turpentine distillaries (some still identifiable), cypress logging, and transportation by the steamboats in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Burroughs was inspired to make the trip and write the book after reading Nathanial Bishop's book, Voyage of the Paper Canoe.
At $15.95, it's well worth the read and if you're like me, you'll re-read it every 2 to 3 years.
