Description: This book was written right after the Civil War by a man who, at 17, walked across South America then decided to canoe from Quebec Canada to the Gulf of Mexico in a paper canoe.
The author describes in detail each river and lake he uses and the towns, people, wildlife and difficulties he encounters along the way. He paddles through the Great Lakes, down the Delaware, through Chesapeak Bay, the Great Dismal Swamp, Albemarle, Pamlico, and Bogue Sound, mentioning Portsmouth, Edenton, Beaufort, Morehead, Newbern (sic), Swansboro, etc., etc. Lots of history of the coastal waters many of which now make up the ICW. Lots of detail is given to what he considers the most forlorn portion of his trip, the Wacammaw River.
A great read!
Keywords: The journal of 2500 mile journey from Quebec to Gulf Mexico in paper canoe.
