Pros: Easy to understand, simple recommendations to keep entry to the sport from becoming complicated
Cons:

I like this book quite a bit. Roth frequently presents an overview of the breadth of a particular aspect of the sport, then quickly narrows the field with a specific recommendation -- with an explanation of why, of course. For example, after presenting the various types of reels available, he comes right out and recommends a medium spinning reel as your first purchase, because it's easy to learn to cast, less prone to backlash than a baitcaster, and performs better than a spincaster. Remember that his audience is the beginner, not the veteran.
