Description: Capt. Owen Lupton has been fishing the Pamlico Sound for over 50 years and is a respected authority on catching Old Red Drum. His custom, hand-made Old Drum rigs utilize circle hooks on a short leader to increase catch rates and significantly reduce deep-hooking. This results in more successful catch-and-release of these great old drum.

Pros: Reduces/eliminates deep hooking of drum
Cons: none

This is a great rig - I have caught many big Red Drum on this rig and never had one deep hooked. These increases the odds that the released fish will live. Don't lose many fish on it either - the short leader and circle hook combination really do the trick!

Pros: well made and Drum friendly setup
Cons: none

Capt. Owne Lupton's Old Red Drum rigs are very well made. And in fact they are hand made by Capt. Owen himself and packaged two per package for $7.50. I caught six Red Drum ranging from 35-55 lbs. the first night we went out with these rigs. The great thing about them is that they avoid deep hooking these beautiful fish which enables the angler to practice catch and release with the least amount of harm to the fish. Highly recommended!

Pros: Survivability of drum
Cons: NONE

I sell this product as well as use. Well designed and well worth $$$. You still need to fish with tight line - not free spool to allow proper hook-up.

Hey kneedeep. It is good to know that you sell this at your shop. I was looking for some last summer around Oriental and they were hard to come by. Looking forward to getting down your way in the next few weeks to say hello.
