At first light we were met with the good ole sw 10-15kn winds and a good soaking on the way to our first area. Upon arriving the power pole will not work, so I take the fuse out and check it and in doing so I reset the power and it began to work. We fish for an hour or two before the first hookup when I catch back to back small stripers on topwater. We fish around a little longer with no bites and make a drastic move. Instead of hiding out of the wind, we fish the windy, choppy bank, with rollers and put the ipilot and the power pole to work. We move up to the first point and J.Edwards hooks up on a nice Red on his first cast. I drop the pole as he fights the fish through the chop to the boat. I fire a cast on the same point as Curtis nets Jon's red and I immediately hook up on another decent red that makes a short run and throws the hook. Jon's red measures just over 23"es and is very healthy. We drift the bank with the trolling motor on high to keep us off the bank and drop the power pole every so often to slow us down. This technique worked like a charm and we ended up picking up around 30 fish total with 7 keeper flounder, small reds and small trout over the next 2.5 to 3 hours. We decide to call it quits around 1:30 when my trolling motor is almost completely dead. Its a 24volt 80lb thrust and I used every bit of it. Thank God for battery chargers so I can take my Dad fishing tomorrow!
