    Default French Broad Smallies

I have spent the last couple of evenings fishing the French Broad around Bent Creek. The water clarity hasn't been great but it has improved substantially from earlier in the week. There is a decent amount of water flowing through there right now but it's manageable to wade the parts of the river I've been fishing in. I've had hookups on senkos, inline spinners, and safety pin spinners. Here are a couple of my recent catches.

Nice fish! I fished it Tuesday in very muddy conditions; thanks for the report on the water clarity.

Went back to Bent Creek this morning for a couple of hours. I found a few fish that were up for tugging on a line. I was only able to get one to hand, and lost two others. The water is still flowing through there at a pretty good clip. Water clarity yesterday afternoon was not great, and the overcast skies were no help. This morning it was much easier to see and I had a lot easier time wading around. I caught fish on senkos and inline spinners.

"I caught fish on senkos" I have fished most of my 59 years but caught my first smallie last year. I know very little about the senkos. How are they fished?

What has been working for me is to rig them weightless and wacky. I use a size 1 or 1/0 hook with a weed guard. I have used an assortment of colors and haven't really seen a trend there. It's mostly about placement, casting in behind rocks and other things and letting the bait bounce down the river with the current. I'm using a 6'9" medium light fenwick rod, a shimano 2500, with 8 lbs suffix braid.

No problem. Are you fishing the FB or a different river? I'm interested in knowing if a particular color or size works better for you.
