I love my Frontier 12 but if I had to gripe about anything it would not be the weight (but it's a heavy joker) or the lack of speed (barge-like)...it's that seat base that pops and creeks with the slightest movement. I put in rubber washers but no good. Aquaterra Sports makes a powder coated aluminum base that fits exactly in both a low and high version. I'm not spooking any more fish. Ordered one today. The high version gives some under seat storage and can't have much effect on that incredibly stable kayak so I went with it. Will post pics when it arrives.

Mine's very bad. I think the 360 seat causes it more than the seat on yours. I figure going from a plastic base to aluminum should fix it. Plus a little under seat storage may come in handy. We shall see.

I have the low version of that seat base. I think you'll like it. I mounted my seat without the swivel. It's nice to be able to grab the fixed seat back entering the boat and I have not missed being able to rotate the seat at all. I made a shelf for mine out of plywood painted with black enamel. Stuck a couple strips of EPDM rubber weather stripping on it to keep stuff from shifting around. Works great. It's nice having tackle on the shelf with my net on the deck underneath.

I think a lot of the creaking is coming from the seat itself. I sprayed Ballistol on all the connections and tightened everything up as much a possible and that helped a lot. Too bad it's not a welded frame.

I think the height helps with visibility on moving rivers for structure moreso than fish. In calmer water I will stand and paddle on occasion. On the clear water of mosquito lagoon in Florida I could see fish that I would not have sitting down.

Yep, the one time I tried kayak fishing there I had a guy on a dock telling me there was a pod of big reds right in front of me and I could not see them seated in my boat. He got so frustrated he had to walk away.

I'm going back in February. It's an awesome environment and when conditions are right, epic fishing. My buddy DTown was wearing out the trout on Mirrolures but after I caught a red on topwater (in about 6 inches of water...there was no other lure I could fish) we never fished anything else....it was a slaughter for both reds and trout.
