    Default Topsail Specks

Trout were killing it yesterday (Tuesday) at Topsail on the outgoing tide. I was fishing DOA Jerk shad in most any color, 1/4 ounce jig head. Cast out and let the current sweep the bait down with slight twitching, they would bow the rod when they hooked up. There was 5 people at the area and all of us got a limit of nice fat trout. I left them biting.

Gotta love the fall bite. Soft plastics will get the job done. If you are not hitting fish, move around till you find them. Their was tons of finger mullet moving in the ICW. You could watch them get busted by fish as they moved down.

Nice. Were you surf fishing? I'm hoping yes. I surf fish in the area a few weeks ago for the first time, and would like to try again.

FISHING the ICW, I hear they were catching a lot of specks off of Surf City Pier the same day. If that the case, 52MR should put you on some fish in the surf.

    Them's some beefy specs.
What kind of current are you finding them in? The tide by me has been super low so there isn't many places with ripping current. Would an 1/8 Oz be fish able or would it not reach the bottom?

Great job, Scott! Even after all these years, the best trout advice/info that I've ever received, came from you. Thanks for the report!

One eighth is kinda light for fast current. I use 1/4 and do fine.

I use a small 4 inch DOA Jerk bait because it is streamlined. It will get down fast. Curly tails and paddle tails slow the fall down and takes longer to get to the bottom. It will be swept down current faster.

Gulp 5 inch jerk shad in Chartruese, Pink Shine or Sweet and Sour Chicken will work just fine. Less not forget Chicken on a Chain.. valuable bait color.

Yup. That water temp rose up to 74 on Sunday after being at 65 on Tuesday. By all counts, tuesdat was epic and it went downhill all week as the temp rose.
