Red X Angler - When we catch and release we don't want to eat it, we just want to make it late for something.

I'm gonna have to bow out of this one. Spent 3 days on the beach last weekend's tournament and we've rented a place on Oak Island for Thanksgiving. Any more fishing and I will have divorce proceedings. I plan to make one of these...One day.

Just checked Accuweather for Kure beach for the meet. Good news looks dry so far, bad news wind for Friday 17 gusts to 37, Saturday 16 with gust to 28. I will definitely not bring the kayaks if there is anything close to the wind forecast. I will be fishing Lockwood Folly Inlet Friday afternoon and surf fishing with John and Donnie Saturday.

Can we keep this updated how and where everyone is gonna fish. I dont want to overpack either kayaks and such if not using but sure sounds fun to kayak the area. Prefer to fish with the group.

I will send out a pm to everyone and ask and post up. Last year 3 of us kayak fished and the rest surf fished, the kayak fishing in the basin back to Buzzards bay is my favorite place to fish.

Those winds will make the basin brutal. This is from last Sunday morning when the wind shifted to the north gusting to 20. Blew in under the rain fly and through the screen. An option for kayaks would be to put in at one of the 3 crossovers on the beach side and fish the creek to be somewhat protected from the wind. Follow the tides though, that Creek has a very mucky bottom in places.

I love kayak fishing there but like you said the wind can be brutal to say the least.

I plain on bring my kayak in case the basin at one of the cross over is fishable. I personally not equipped to surf fish.

I hope the wind doesn't mess y'all up as the fishing has been good for the last ten days just south of the Fort. Pomps were chewing Tuesday before last but none since. Slot drum and blues to three lbs. each trip. The fish in the photo came as a double up on a two hook bottom rig this morning. The drum went 33 inches.
    Hope y'all catch 'em up.

Flounder fishing with a Gulp on a jighead or a strip of bait retrieved slowly can be done with conventional bass gear. So can bottom fishing or tossing small jigs in the sloughs for trout. But if the wind blows hard (and we know that forecast can and will likely change) it makes for big waves and difficulty fishing that way with lighter gear. On the plus side, reds love heavier surf. While I love kayak fishing I'm looking forward to low stress and work by hanging out on the beach surf fishing.

They were not. It was a non alcohol event. This year I want to go a bit further down the beach. There's a spot where bait may be caught behind the beach and 2 good holes in front...at least before the hurricane there was.
