    Default Trophy Rockfish

Made a very long drive this morning to test some new waters with my good buddy Sammy. Didn't even get to the ramp until 8. Once we made it to our first spot, Sammy hooks up on a fiesty little 17 incher. I immediately follow up with a solid 20" fatty. About 2 casts later, my Cotton Cordell Red Fin gets SLAMMED and my Battle 2500 starts screaming. Fish made a turn sideways and showed itself and I couldn't believe it. Every time I'd get it close she'd take back off or glue herself to the bottom. Finally get her in the net, remove the lure, get a measurement (33") and take a few photos. Get her back in the water and attempt to revive her but after 5 mins without 1 kick, I made the call to toss her in the cooler.

Caught fish all thoughout the day and ended with a total of 35. We took home our 4. Made our way by the Roanoke Sportsman on the way back to have the big girl weighed. She topped out at 16 lbs 10 oz. An absolutely incredible day on some new waters. Can't wait to try it again next weekend.

You're gonna need a bigger net. Nice work man! She's huge! Too bad she didn't make it, but better on your table than lizard fish food IMO.

Way to go.... You killed the only non stocked fish left in our waters.

Just kidding, you did the best you could. At least it won't get wasted.

If it helps, we did release many fat females full of eggs, including a nice 25 incher Sammy caught.

Great work! THAT is a Striper right there. We thought we had a good day too, plenty of action which shows we have a very healthy Striper fishery.

Man what a Fish! That's the kind of striper fishing folks dream about.

Great fish! Applaud your effort to release, but I'd have done the same. Looks like it's game on in the 'Oke!
