Default Red X Trip Fort Desoto Florida

After 2 years of reading Johns report on his trip to Mosquedoo Lagoon I have decide a winter / fall trip is due. I have decided on Fort Desoto down by Tampa as my desired destination. Has campground in park with sound side fishing and beautiful Gulf water on opposite side of island. Also offers primitive camping on Shell island that you can kayak to from what I can tell from Google Earth. Also looks like they have a nice pier on the island. I have plans on making a trip down next week to scout everything out and get local info on the fishing that time of year. Will post up some pics and info to possibly entice a couple fellow Red X friends to join in.

Would like to make a Florida winter trip a yearly thing to get away from the cold. The next destination Iím considering is some where in the keys.

Was there at the end of April, great place. Lots of different fishing opportunities. Good choice. You should stay busy. Good luck

Red X Angler - When we catch and release we don't want to eat it, we just want to make it late for something.

Maybe you can share a ride with Darrell if he joins in. 10 hour ride unless you frequently hear the call of nature.

Me too. Tentative right now depending on date, but that sounds like an awesome adventure.

It's on my calendar. Should be smoking hot if the batfish are in there like they were last year.

Will keep you in the loop John. Iím still on for scouting out Fort Desoto this Friday if the weather doesnít change.

I still have a desire to make a trip to either Islamoranda, Marathon or Sugarloaf Key within a time frame of 1 year. Long haul about 15 hours but have done this drive before in 1 day. My brother in law has contacts down there and have asked him to reach out for info on best area for kayaks and primo fishie areas. This could work out for a spring time trip.

Scouting trip completed and nothing is going to stop me from pitching a tent on the water front lot this winter. Island also has 1000 ft pier on Gulf and another 500 ft pier. Sites has water and electric and nice palm trees giving shade.
