    Default Trent River 12/19

Put in at Lawson's and fished the Trent for a few hours on Wednesday. I had 27 fish in about 3 hours so I stopped fishing, threw 7 back and headed for the house. Water temps were around 52* or so. I caught these fish in less than 6' of water.

The fish in the checker was 15" long. I had 3 fish over 1.5lbs.

Nice work. When you find them that shallow do you cast for them or what technique was used?

Tightline. You could easily fish with type pole you wanted or method in this spot. The size of the fish was a welcomed sight. For all of you that fish it regularly , I think most of the panfish survived the storm fairly well.

If you have kids that like to fish, shoot me a message and I'll to help put you on something.

Always enjoy your posts Jack. I think you've got that river dialed in.

Thanks bmac. When I'm not up tournament fishing or prefishing I really enjoy going to New Bern. I live minutes from the NE and Black Rivers and both have decent crappie populations. However fish for fish, the Trent and Neuse out fish them.

We will be there at first light, going to look for some stripers and then go Crappie fishing. 19 foot Carolina skiff with three adults and one kid if you see us feel free to say hey.

That is good news, I am hoping to move close enough to fish the Trent and Neuse regularly. Crappie has never been a strong suit of mine. I can catch them if I am with someone that knows were to find them but I have very spotty luck looking for them myself.

I fished the upper White Oak on Sat upstream of Dixon's in the yak. Way too much flow with the recent rains, and I couldn't get too far upstream due to some deadfalls that I hope someone will clear.

Fished the lower Trent out of Merchants in the yak on Sun. I caught two very nice crappie(11.5" & 10") on RatL'Traps trolling for stripers, but nothing else. I tried docks on the N. Bank of the Trent upstream of Brice's but never got a bite. I ain't no Panfish Jack, but every now and then the blind hog finds the acorn.

I like that phrase...even a blind hog finds a acorn...well said. We cannot all be a panfish jack...takes years to learn his secrets. However, will he ever get a 2 LB Crappie before April Full Moon??

They're in the river for sure. I've caught a few over 2 up there over the years. If you're going to catch one of those big girls, it'll be well before April. I'll start looking for them in late February on a real warm day. The vast majority of the larger fish will hit those beds early. I'd say move your time table up 1 month and see how well you do.

You are a master of that river for sure. You named your avatar well. Mighty fine mess of crappie.
