Looking at making the meet and staying on hill. If things donít work out Fort Fisher should be good to go.

Default 2019 New River Smallmouth save the date

In an effort to support our Red X brethren I and 3 buddies with whom Iíve been fishing with for over 20 years sacrificed by checking conditions on the South Fork of the New this weekend. We suffered miserably in spartan accommodations and paddled in high and quick water in order to ascertain if there were any fish left in there since the river reached record high levels this year. It was a tough job at 600 cfs and 2.8 gauge height but was worth the risk for all of you.

The Dan river, on the other hand, was at perfect flow and clarity, and smallies just jumped into the boat.

Ok, I only caught two... but it was a rec paddle, I wasn't stopping to fish.

But the flow and clarity was outstanding.... I recommend anyone who can to try it tomorrow.

Clarity on the South Fork was excellent but the flow made it tough to fish some of my favorite spots as the anchor chain wonít hold as well. The quality of the smallies was good however with a 14Ē bring my best of the weekend. The pictured redeye Bass was one of the largest I ever caught. Floated Roan Creek to Wagoners day 1 and Gentry to 221 on day 2.

I'm planning to make my first river float (post heart snafu) next Saturday weather condtions permitting. Since the water is still a little high I was thinking Wagoners to Gentry Road. Let me know if your interested in joining me. When we have a count I'll see if we have enough to involve Dusty Trails Outfitters or if we can handle the shuttle ourselves. Either way hope you can make it and hope the weather conditions are favorable. I'm ready to get back out there, I have an itch that needs scratchin!

Dusty is unavailable memorial day weekend.

I am doing confluence to MOW on Saturday, and 221 to kings creek sunday. Both are mainly recreational floats, but I will do some fishing.

I think I'd be up for that if'n conditions look to be worth the drive.
