So... I have a couple of "surf rods".. mh, 7'+ long, with 5000 series reels on it.

I figure putting triangle sand sinkers, and a fish finder rig on those, with some shrimp and fishbaits on them.

    I have sand spikes.

Should I also bring a trout/redfish rod to throw lures while I await a hit on the bait rods?
After all is said and done.... A heck of a lot more will be said than done

You will likely find that it's better to fish that trout\red rod without having your surf rods in the water. With shrimp for bait the bites will come fast on the surf rod so you won't have much time for casting lures. As 'The Wrangler' stated your chances for a speck are better with the artificial although 2 years ago I caught a 22" speck on a live finger mullet. That was the first event and Donnie and I were the only ones surf fishing. Everyone else was yakkin'.

    Thank you.

Waders? Or will the surf still be warm?

Water temps will likely be mid 60's. No waders needed. A pair of quick drying Columbia pants and some crocs or wading shoes is perfect for the shores edge. One of the biggest mistakes surf fishermen make is casting over where the fish are staged so you need not cast far. The only times you may want to wade out at all are if there is a distant sandbar to target or to land a big fish. A lob from the edge of the water is all you need. I'd suggest in addition to your shrimp bait you put a chunk of mullet on a c-rig and lob it right in the surf. That's where the reds will be. Same for many other species.

Just 17 days to go to our 3rd meet at the Fort. Great to see the original group of attendees on the list again for this year.

Took advantage of the mullet blow this week to net and freeze some in a gallon bag for cut bait in case they are hard to find at the event.

I'm pretty excited to join still. Working hard to line up a backup so I can take Friday, 10/25, off to save from having to drive out there early Saturday morning.

Sorry about that Bob, I knew you would attend being you have made every one plus it would not be the same without you making it. Really great that the original few that made the first one will be attending the 3rd meet.
