    Default Chopper sightings?

Has anyone seen any signs of Chopper Blues yet, or heard of any? Thanks!

We managed to find a large school of decent sized blues hitting topwater on sunday morning.
We were inside the inlet at Wrightsville beach. I would say from 2 to 10 pounds. Was tons of fun on 8lb test and using whopper ploppers. Huge explosions from these guys, they were chasing glass minnows not mullet. Larger lures did not produce, 3" or less was key.

Also managed tons of spike trout, and found some nice 1-3 pounds sheepshead. Should be a good sign for the rest of the year.

The strong inshore presence we saw last year might not be happening this year. Had been on them for weeks by this time last year and the bite was nearing it's end as I recall. Doesn't mean they can't still surprise us though.

Not much is known about the choppers. It wasn't really but in the last 10 years that they started showing up in numbers along our coast. Before that, it had been several decades. The world record bluefish was caught out of Hatteras in the early 70s.

I will say I have experienced really good runs of them at Cape Lookout in Mid May. So there is still time. Just keep our fingers crossed.

If Kevin is a New Yorker then hes also a Mets fan. Jets/Mets, Giants/Yankees. 99% accurate. Nice trout!
