Which part of the chowan? I fish lower part. No hydrilla there. Cypresses and Lilly pads are nice though.

Don’t recall any recently but algae blooms have been horrible over last 2 years. Also some early this year too.

    Default Hydrilla on the Chowan

If I'm not mistaken, about 10-12 years ago, the state did a major hydrilla eradication in the creeks that fed the lower Chowan. I havent seen much hydrilla since then. The duck hunting went to heck shortly after the hydrilla went away.

X2 on this. Everything goes to heck when they kill any kind of grass especially hydrilla. I remember the days of old hunting the chowan.....last time I went I rode 12 miles and di not see a single solitary duck or swan on the river. What a tragedy

What was the reason they eradicated it? Didn't they do something similar on Lake Mattamuskeet?

It is my understanding that there were complaints about boaters not being able to boat
