Went out 30 minutes before sun rise yesterday by myself because my brother decided to sleep in. He’s still an active duty Marine and claims to work REALLY hard all of the time. Put in at the USO ramp in J-vill with intentions on running to Wallace Creek. As I was trolling through the no wake at the city bridge the shrimp were in their thousands popping all over the place and getting crushed every ten seconds or so. Forget Wallace creek. I dropped the trolling motor and started fishing. Very anti-climatic...didn’t catch a thing. I decided to stay in that area and cast around for I couldn’t just leave; that would have been bananas. Started targeting the grass lines that line the edge of the river. Drum, trout, flounder....hello. I called my brother; no answer. I saw “The Speckled Specialist” troll past me and anchor down in a spot. I knew at that point I was in the right spot. I called my brother again. No answer. I sent him 4 pics of drum, two pics of flounder, and two pics of trout. He answered. He was at the ramp in less than 20 minutes. As the bite slowed in that area we pushed to a creek 2 minutes away. Holy bananas it turned on again. Between the both of us; probably 20 or so drum, 10 or so trout, and 5-6 flounder. Definitely a day to remember. Gulp shrimp weedless and weightless and/or a gulp shrimp or a paddle tail swim bait on an under-spin ONLY in New Penny and as close to the grass as possible worked all the way to the boat.
