\r\n\r\n Default Lake Norman Help\r\n

\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n

\r\n
\r\n Hello, going to spend a few days this week on lake norman...mostly before dawn and then evening/night fishing. And I\'ll be on the southwest side near Charlotte. Any tips on where to go and what to use would be greatly appreciated. I\'ve heard it can be tough lake. Thanks!\r\n

\r\n If you are limiting yourself to the Southwest section of the lake, it’s pretty clear. Of course, a lot of it is clear now so it’s almost the same anywhere.
    \n
\nEarly and late, find the windiest points in the creeks that feed in around the yacht club and Westport. The shad are moving back and shallow now so in the real early go with a topwater like a small buzz bait or whopper popper. This can work in the real late, too.
    \n
\nAs it gets a tad lighter, jerkbaits, hard and soft, and small shad colored cranks should do well.
    \n
\nKeep at that all day if the wind is blowing enough to put a good ripple on the surface.
    \n
\nIf it dies out, work the docks in the same areas with small jigs or worms.

Thank you!! Saturday I might have a little more time to head a little ways north. Any good areas to try out? I’ll also be night fishing for the next two nights...would you go shallow yet or go deep and drop shot ledges? Thanks again. This morning I did Buzzbait and w.plopper around docks in a cove near the yacht club but no luck. Got one good bite on an underspin. Thanks again\r\n

\r\n The bait are pretty shallow, so I don’t think you would need to go real deep for now.
    \n
\nI like any section of the lake above the 150 highway...better color and for me, better fishing.
    \n
\nThe main thing i like to look for is the wind making the surface les smooth, of that makes sense.

\r\n Ok thanks. Man, they were blowing up all around me this morning (main lake point) but I could not get them to bite. So annoying. Tried three different topwater, (buzz, w.plopper and heddon) xd3 crankbait, and spinnerbait. Finally got one spotted bass well after sunrise on a lipless crankbait. Did get one last night also at dusk on a shakyhead at 30 ft deep. Marked him on fishfinder at a ledge. Decent size 2lb. That was my first spotted bass...that thing pulled some serious drag. Thanks again for the tips. Any idea how long it would take going approx 30-40mph) to get from Beattys ford access to the 150 bridge? Trying to see if it’s worth it. Thanks again!\r\n

To split hairs, it is an Alabama bass. No longer considered a spotted bass, like the Kentucky spotted bass. Congrats on your first Bama! There are no real spotted bass in Norman..\r\n

\r\n Cool thanks. I didn’t realize that about Alabama vs Kentucky spots. I was really surprised at how many there were. I think I caught around 9 or 10 and not one lmb. I did make it up to the State Park. Unfortunately, it was Saturday morning and there was just a ton of bass boats everywhere. Didn’t have much luck...one spot. But it was cool to see most of the lake. Thanks again for all the help! Look forward to making it back there one day.\r\n

Yeah, the two fish are virtually identical in appearance, but genetic testing showed they were not even closely related. The Alabama bass is more related to the shoal bass than it is to the spotted bass, and grows larger than the spotted bass. There are some spotted bass in some of the rivers down east stocked by NCWRC, but the fish in Norman, Chatuge, Fontana and Belews have proven to be Alabamas.\r\n

      Default Lake Norman Help

Hello, going to spend a few days this week on lake norman...mostly before dawn and then evening/night fishing. And I'll be on the southwest side near Charlotte. Any tips on where to go and what to use would be greatly appreciated. I've heard it can be tough lake. Thanks!
