    Default My first longnose gar!

I’ve been seeing gar since about Labor Day in this small creek I fish often. I’ve been trying to catch one for a while now but getting a hook set is very difficult, but today I finally had one that wasn’t running to cover so I gave it pleanty of time before reeling in. It was a fantastic fight, several jumps! Perfect hook set with Kahle hook in back corner of mouth, easy catch and release,

Congratulations. I haven't landed a gar in a long time. A fun fish to catch....when you have pliers with you.

That's great. Thanks for the nostalgia of when I hooked one of similar size on the Neuse with my fly rod. What a hoot it was.

I know gar and bowfin are more warm water fish, but when do you guys start targeting them? I’ve been daydreaming a lot lately about big gar and want to chase them again
