Default Spots, Spots and More Spots

The wife and I went spot fishing last Monday and we sure found them. As fast as it would hit the bottom you had 1 or 2 on. And they all were good size ones too. Haven't caught spots like that in years. We sat anchored in one spot for about 3-4 hrs and caught 285 nice size spots. Gave a few away to friends and put 235 in the freezer. Was a job cleaning them all but it will be well worth it when it comes time to fry some up! The first picture was what I had caught in just the first couple hrs. The wife had just as many in her cooler.

Honest question here - are spots sought after to the point where people would get annoyed at a name drop of the pier or beach they were caught at?

    In a word, yes.

Teach a man to fish and he'll give away all your good spots.

Not really. I haven't pier fished in probably 20 years but it's usually no secret when they start biting on the pier or in the sound. Pier's are usually pretty quick about posting on FB when spots are biting. In the sound just look for the fleet of boats. They usually catch them in the same places year after year.
There was probably 25 other boats around us the other day and it was not a problem. We were all anchored in about 40' of water fishing straight down.
Not my favorite kind of fishing but they sure are tasty.

They are good! Just not typically the kind of fish I’d expect people to grumble about “spot dropping”. Besides, it’s nobody else’s business if you decide to share your spot or not!

Used to be able to go to any pier in NC/SC in October and catch enough spots to last the year. And that's having a fish fry for friends and family about twice a month. Alas, NC has allowed trawling inside nursery areas for too long and those days are gone. So yes, when someone finds them, away from the normal pier outbreaks, they kinda like to stay hush- mouthed. Wouldn't you?

Teach a man to fish and he'll give away all your good spots.

It was a job for sure. I have a 12V electric scaler and it still took 7 hrs. It's hard to quit when they're biting 2 at the time.
