Default Reading weather to go offshore

    Hey,

For any folks that fish the near shore ARs, what weather and wave patterns do you look for? Specifically in the SE NC area, around Wrightsville beach. In terms of wind, wind direction, swell, etc. I've found plenty of sites giving swell info but some report very different things than others.

I know AR-425 is popular. I was actually hoping to go to AR-370 this weekend and the weather and tide seem good to me. Tide would be falling in the AM when I launch and rising when I return.

My basic understanding is I want low wind of course, preferable blowing toward shore. Low swell/wave height, 2ft max maybe? High swell period? Reports I'm seeing say 9-10 seconds this Saturday at AR-370.

    Some of the sites I've been using are swellinfo.com, https://forecasts.surfer.com, https://www.surf-forecast.com, https://www.windfinder.com.

I have fished offshore in my kayak before, but am fairly new and looking for additional input from anyone with useful knowledge to share.

    Thanks!

Typically if you stay near the beach you want a wind blowing off the shore as it makes it much calmer but at 3/4th mile off the beach or more its goin to make less of a difference. I would agree with 2 foot surf max and I would say 10mph wind max. Swell isn't something I worry too much about.
