\r\n Hey everyone, looking to go to lake james for a week in the Spring (mid april). Wanting to get some advice on finding smallmouth. I have never specifically sought out smallmouth but thought I would try this year. Can anyone recommend some good areas to look for them on Lake James? I think I have heard the Linville side is better, but just don\'t know where specifically and at what depth. Will also be looking for spawning LMB at that time as well. Thanks everyone!\r\n

\r\n At that time of year running points and staying fairly shallow should put you around plenty of smallmouth and largemouth. If just targeting smallmouth look for rock. To me, late March, April and May are a few of the months you can drop the trolling motor and just go. Topwaters should work along with jerkbaits. Other than way up the Catawba end I\'m not convinced either side of the lake is that much better anymore for smallmouth, they seem well dispersed.\r\n
