    Default Chowan River Stripers

Went out for stripers on the Chowan yesterday. They are starting to show up. Caught three, one was a keeper. lost one that felt bigger. not a huge number but it should get better as more arrive. my best day last year was mid February.

Thanks. I should be out of the cast in a couple of weeks and into a hard splint thats removable. Bad arthritis and an incident with a retriever trainer bumper shooter. Nothing surgery wont fix and that happened Friday.

You can depending on where the fish are on any particular day. Some days it would be a long paddle to where they are, some days, right close to the ramp.

Whisperingredfis, Yes I kayak fish the Chowan. Haven't tried lower part yet. But have several times on the upper part. There are a few places that are not a long paddle to get on the fish. I go for stripers in winter then catfish and white perch once the water warms up.

Agree white perch fun from the colerain area down to Eden House Bridge. Kayaked and boated many times there. Always wanted to try the kayak for stripers on the Roanoke. Maybe this March. We’ll see.

I fished a creek between the bridge and the dye plant a couple of years ago that the White Perch had run up into. They fish were top to bottom on the fish finder and the water looked like it was boiling. I caught about a hundred in a half hour with a mini Clouser pattern. It was EPIC fun with a kayak and a flyrod

Sounds like Rocky Hock creek. Been a long time since I fished that part of the river but I hear good reports from there from time to time. I have found them thick around Cannon's Ferry in August just a few hundred yards from the park there. That's where I launch in that part of the river.
