    Default Looking for recommendations for places to try in the Durham area

    Hi everyone, I'm new to fishing in this area and have been struggling a bit. I've been taking my 5 year old out regularly and now with schools closing, I'm trying to get him outside for the mornings. I've been failing to find fish, though. I'm really looking for panfish mainly. I've been focused on the Eno and the eastern area of Falls lake.

    Some places I've tried:
    * Eno at Redmill Rd
    * Falls Lake at Redwood Rd
    * Beaver Dam Primitive Access (water was really high)
    * Little river
    * Jordan fishing pier

    Am I on the right track? Any other places you'd recommend I try? We don't mind walking a bit - even though he's 5, he's pretty tough.

    I've been hoping to hit some of the crappie spawn - I think my kid would get a kick out of that. We've been bobber fishing with jigs, some crank baits, worms.

    Thanks for any help you can give.

    It's still early with these cold nights. I'd expect you'd have better luck by the end of this week with overnight lows staying in the 60's. Fish will start to move shallow in any of the spots you listed.

    Thanks, Sporkd2! I'll keep at it. The worst that happens is we'll be enjoying the out of doors by the water. There are worse ways to spend a morning.

    I fish Jordan Lake a lot and catch white perch and crappie frequently. If you and your son want to fish with me for 1-3 hours some morning in my canoe (Ive got room for 3 and use a trolling motor to get around), send me a PM and well work something out.

    Few places to try

    The Hippie Hole-Falls Lake-New Light Rd
    Lake Holt in Butner-They have a small pier

    Also on lake holt, there is a bridge off or Roberts Chapel Road. There is a path that goes down under the bridge. May try there for crappie.
