Default Smallmouth fishing in the New River

What are the best lures and methods for fishing of smallmouth in the New River in Western NC around the Jefferson/ West Jefferson area.

Also are there easy access points to the river further north?

Not sure about access points but any soft plastic imitating a crayfish is a good choice.

Inline spinners are another good choice

I agree with the crayfish. Ned Rigs in particular are good there. Also, you might want to try some curly tail grubs in different colors. White is usually effective, but browns and oranges do well at times.
After all is said and done.... A heck of a lot more will be said than done

4 inch zoom lizards on a jig head. Remove the heads and thread them on like a curly tail grub. You can burn it fast or bounce it along the bottom. It looks like it wouldn’t work, but give them a try...

that’s about all I use when I fish the New anymore.
Good luck and post up some pics of what you catch.

I agree with the 4" lizard, Green pumpkin. Also, Z-Man Drews Crawz on a Z-Man Bulletz jig head. Berkleys 3" Ribbon tail grubs on 1/6oz jig head, Orange w/white tail and Firetiger colors. Rebel We craw.
